99 44/100% Pure

"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless" (Eph.5:25-27)

To demonstrate that Ivory soap was purer than the other soaps available in 1885, Harley Proctor hired a laboratory to test it out. As a result, they came up with a slogan that lasted for close to a century, that Ivory soap was 99 44/100% pure. I don't know how accurate that analysis was, but that number says its pretty pure... The apostle Paul viewed the church as a bride. (2 Cor.11:1-2) A bride that had been betrothed to Christ and had the responsibility to be pure and chaste. As we look at today's verses, we see that Christ thinks of the church in exactly the same way. After all, He offered himself to enable her to be pure and holy, and He did out of His great love for her... As the church is the bride of Christ, and we make up the church, quite a responsibility to maintain purity and holiness is thrust upon us. The purity begins through the blood of Jesus as we are baptized into Him. Next involves confession... "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness" (1 Jn.1:9). I assume that Ivory continued to make their soap the same way so that their slogan would remain true, and we have the responsibility to maintain our purity. We are to do this through the righteous life we live, filled with acts of kindness toward one another. We are also to put unrighteous deeds behind us and abstain from them... Its not easy to remain pure, but as the bride of Christ its our daily task. The church is all about lifting one another up and encouraging each other, so we are not out there on a desert island... We have help from the other brides...

Have a great day... Let His light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
