The Job Of The Sheep

"But the one who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep. To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out" (Jn.10:2-3).

The first job of the sheep is to hear the voice of the shepherd, and if we follow along into verse 4, we find that his sheep follow him because they know his voice... Jesus has the expectation that His sheep will heed His voice. While on His earthly mission, Jesus proclaimed that we listen to His voice and stated it directly in the Great Commission. (Matt.28:18-20). By heeding the voice of His Word through the words of the apostles, we do exactly that. To receive those words is to receive Him... The early church continued steadfastly in the apostles doctrine (Acts 2:42) and in turn taught the commandments of the Lord... The next thing we are to do is hold close to His flock. The scriptures tells us clearly that there is just one flock, or one body... "I have other sheep that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear my voice; and they will become one flock with one shepherd" (Jn.10:16). A big part of our jobs as a part of the flock is to maintain the unity of that flock... The apostle Paul told us to do just that... "Being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace..." (Eph.4:3). It is a part of our job description as His sheep to preserve the oneness of the flock, His church... We ought to deem it an honor to be special sheep with the most exceptional Shepherd there ever was....

Have a great day... Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
