Hit The Road, Jesus!

"Then the people began to plead with Jesus to leave the region" (Mk.5:17).

Can you believe this crowd of people in today's verse? The miracle that Jesus had just performed in removing the demon(s) from the man that had been terrorizing the region is the first recorded in the gospel of Mark. The demons had been cast into a herd of pigs that in turn rushed down a steep bank and were drowned in the lake, and the local folks didn't have to deal with him any longer. The only person that begged Jesus to be allowed to follow him was the man who had been demon possessed. After seeing this miracle, why didn't all the people want Jesus around? This was a guy who had extraordinary powers... We have all heard the phrase that hindsight is 20/20. Its easy to look back on a situation and say that I would have never done that! "I would have never denied Jesus like Peter did!" "I would have never sold out Jesus like Judas did!" "I would have never sent Jesus away like these people did!" Unfortunately, our lives may tell a different story when it comes to following Jesus' teachings, especially the more difficult ones. "Don't lust.... Love your enemy... Don't get angry... Pray for people that are trying to hurt you.... If someone slaps you on the face, turn the other cheek..." ' The people's excuse for sending Jesus away in today's verse was financial... Pigs were valuable... Often when Christians confront tough passages they may say; "Well, what He really meant was....." or "That doesn't really apply to me...." Lets make sure that we take all of Jesus' teachings seriously... I don't know why some people choose to send Jesus away from certain parts of their lives, but I know that I don't want to be one of those that tell Him to hit the road....

Have a great start to your week... Begin it with a RAK or two... Love mark Phil.4:11
