The Sign Of Unity

"That all of them may be one, Father, Just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you sent me.... I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me" (Jn.17:21; 23)

We see two very important things about unity from today's verses. One is that it shows that God has sent Jesus and the other is that God loves the world. He made the part about loving us crystal clear in a verse that I am sure that most of us can quote, John 3:16. To me, this shows that the sign of unity is an integral one to world in that God sent Christ who actually produces that unity witnessed by the world. "His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace" (Eph.2:16). This was an important treatise from the apostle Paul saying that both Jews and Gentiles were one under Christ. The importance of unity led Paul to condemn division and those who cause it... "I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another that that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought" (1 Cor.1:10). This led Paul to teach attitudes that were essential in preserving this unity as he wrote this to the church at Philippi: "Then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should not only look to your own interests, but also to the interests of others" (Phil.2:2-4). We must do nothing to destroy the sign of unity, therefore, enhancing its effectiveness...

Have a great day... Do good and give God the credit... Love mark Phil.4:11
