Hurting A Church Through Worldliness

"The seed that fell among the thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life's worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature" (Lk.8:14).

If Satan cannot destroy or diminish a church through false doctrine, he has another trick up his sleeve. He can use a tactic that has hindered the Lord's work since its beginning and it has to do with the "love of the world..." The apostle John writes this: "Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world --- the cravings of sinful man, the lusting of the eyes and the boasting of what he has and does --- comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever" (1 Jn.2:15-17). Immorality and materialism can tear into the very fabric of a church, compromising what it stands for... If we go back to the seven churches in Asia that the Book of Revelation was written to, we find that the church at Thyatira "tolerated the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she leads my servants into sexual immorality....." (Rev.2:20). Immorality can do the same thing to churches today, and along with materialism can draw Christians away from their service to the Lord. To ward off these temptations that are always out there we must come to grip this.... "Anyone who chooses to be a friend with the world becomes an enemy of God" (Jas.4:4). Instead of being conformed to this world, we must be transformed by the renewing of our minds. We must watch and pray so that our church is not overcome by spiritual worldliness...

Have a wonderful day... Make your little part of the world better.... Love mark Phil.4:11
