That Indifference Thing

"One who is slack in his work is brother to one who destroys" (Prov.18:9) "A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he leads justice to victory" (Matt.12:20).

In the two previous devotionals, there were plainly overt tactics showing how Satan can go about destroying the effectiveness of a church. Today we come to one that takes on a more subtle form... It jeopardized the church at Ephesus (Rev.2:4) and Laodicea (Rev.3:15-15). In the case of Ephesus, Jesus said; "You have left your first love." The church at Laodicea had become lukewarm... The church does not just have to be filled with worldliness or false teaching to render it useless. A more subtle thing that can happen is that its members become lazy, indifferent or apathetic. A person may not stop coming to church services, but his or her attendance may become sporadic. Perhaps instead of attending a Bible class before worship, they might squeak in just on time for worship service. Efforts to bring others to the Lord, either through our teaching or our actions take a back seat to other things, and private or personal devotion like Bible study and prayer becomes lax. Worldliness or false teaching does not get a person to this stage, but laziness or skewed priorities does. The Bible addresses this... "Let us not become weary in doing good things, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up" (Gal.6:9). We cannot allow ourselves to get lazy when it comes to doing good things. We have to be diligent and not become sluggish. Others out there may be depending on us for the encouragement they need to to hold fast to their hope. Lets start each day by asking the Lord what He has planned for us today...

Have a great day... Spread His Word through your deeds... Love mark Phil.4:11
