Guard That Heart

"Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life" (Prov.4:23).

I am sure that all of us would like to be people of influence. By that I mean that we will not be afraid to show ourselves as the Christians we are at all times. We have to realize what the true wellspring of life is so that we are not disingenuous or hypocritical in our behavior... Today's short and tidy verse lets us know that in order for us to be the people of influence that God wants us to be, that we have to be more concerned with what is in our hearts than that which is external. Just as the wagon follows the horse, our actions will follow the correct course when the heart is right. Jesus lets us know succinctly in Mk.7:20-23 that evil thoughts and all the bad things that follow, come from an unclean heart... There are four things that emanate from the heart that determine just what kind of people we will be... Within the heart we meditate, understand, reason, and believe. It is the source of intellect. We obey, purpose, and intend through the heart, so it provides our will. All of our emotions (anxiety, love, sorrow, gladness, rejoicing, and anguish) begin in the heart. The passions of life, whether positive or negative find their roots in the heart. Just as the skin of a fruit or shell of a nut does not reveal what is inside, our outward display may not reveal our true selves... Our true and real selves are determined by today's simple verse from the Book of Proverbs... "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life...." Guard it well...

Have a wonderful day... Make your little part of the world better... Love mark Phil.4:11
