Focus It In

"But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man unclean" (Matt.15:15).

If you have ever worked with a microscope or telescope, you know about the focusing process. The old style ones usually had a "rough" adjustment and a "fine" one. You can do everything correct in using one of these instruments, but if you can't get the image focused in properly, you won't get the pleasure of seeing what you want to see.... The rough adjustment is used to get the image within your field of vision. It is not until the fine adjustment is used properly that we will see with clarity. When Jesus talked about what "goes in" not defiling a person, He was really saying that those rules about what you eat or drink or how you wash your hands don't matter nearly as much as the Pharisees thought they did. Its not that these things don't matter at all... Its that these things should have never become the focus, and we don't want to lose sight of the big picture... If I want to look at the planet Jupiter in my telescope, the first thing I have to do is to identify it. A commonly asked question when someone sees a planet in my telescope for the first time is: How did you know where to look? You need to know what you're looking for before using the instrument properly. In the verse following today's, Jesus lists a bunch of sins in a row... If the types of food we eat or the rituals we practice don't matter, why did He do this? Do we really know that what separates us from God is the way we act and treat other people? Its all about what comes out of us that causes the divide. Lets not lose focus of that...

Have a great day... Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
