Nice - Not Thrilling,But Nice

"Devote yourself to the public reading of the Scripture, to preaching and to teaching..... Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress" (1 Tim.4:13 & 15).

A church ought to be a place that is conducive to spiritual growth, where people are encouraged to live a holy life punctuated by peace and joy. Some look at churches and measure them by their programs. Things like the number of classes they teach, the evangelism efforts they support, and the benevolence that is being done. Not that these are wrong, but one ought to strive to be strong with or without a plethora of such programs. In his advice to Timothy in today's verses, the apostle Paul stresses spiritual maturity. To gain it, I read nothing about a bunch of programs, but rather a devotion to a reading of the Scripture, to preaching and teaching... To impress these things on Timothy and us even more he says to "be diligent in these matters, giving yourself wholly to them..." We may not be in a large church that can promote many programs, and it would seem that we are called to be strong either with them or without them... After all, the majority of a Christian's life takes place apart from the local church. Instead of getting bogged down by "church overload," how we live, work, and play takes up most of our time. As with Timothy, God wants to see progress... We are to be diligent in the matters of reading the Scripture, teaching, and preaching that "everyone may see your progress...." The spirituality of a church is measured by the the strength of each individual striving to be the best they can be.... Lots of programs? They're nice... Not thrilling, but nice...

Have a great day.... Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
