Lets Not Go Through The Motions

"You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken contrite heart, O God, you will not despise" (Psa.51:16-17).

From the outside, the Pharisees looked quite Godly. They talked the right way; they worshiped the right way; they sacrificed the right way; they prayed the right way. They appeared to be following God's laws better than anyone else. If this were true, why did Jesus call them on the carpet so many times? The problem was that none of the things that they appeared to do right came from the heart. God wanted them to do the right things, not just for themselves, but for Him and the people around them. God has always known that the choices we make on our own would often lead to disaster, so he gave us a set of rules to live by to keep us safe. The problem is that people can do all the right things, that is, go through the motions, but leave their hearts at the door... More than anything else, the Lord wants our hearts to be in the right place. In today's verses, King David gets it... He understood that the sacrifices and burnt offerings were not what was most pleasing the God... The Lord is looking for a contrite (humble) heart. We have all heard sermons about worshiping the right way, believing the right way, and living the right way. They're important because they may help us to stay on the right course, but they are no substitute for doing things for the right reasons....Lets be sure to get our hearts into all of our actions. That way we won't just go through the motions....

Have a great day... Make a difference... Love mark Phil.4:11
