Jesus And The Kids

"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these" (Mk.10:14)

Artists have long been inspired by visual images of Jesus nestling a child in the crook of His arm, and we have all seen them in their paintings... What a stark contrast it makes to religious leaders sitting cross-legged, wearing robes and having stern looks on their faces... Jesus the Master teacher was indeed a gentle soul. Anxious parents would actually bring their kids to Jesus just to be near him... "People were bringing little children to Jesus to Have Him touch them, but the disciple rebuked them" (V 13). I guess their trust in Jesus that was such that they figured a mere touch from Him would secure blessings from God. The disciples seemed to have the task of protecting Jesus from the crowds, and maybe even the kids, as we just found in the last verse. They ran interference for Jesus, pushing children aside and chastening their parents. I think that they were trying to let folks know that Jesus was too important to be bothered with kids. Jesus turned His rebuke on them and thus set the tone for who should be His real followers. He decided not to cut off the innocent from His touch... For those who will partake of the kingdom of God, the common qualities of children are not options, but rather something to embrace for their inherent worth... Followers of Jesus are to show no partiality. They are to have unquestioning trust, undying love, and unpretending innocence... A childlike believer puts his hand in the hand of the the Lord and walks by faith... In a way, we all get to be kids again....

Have a great day..... Make your little part of the world better... Love mark Phil.4:11
