Defining Moments

"Then a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and a voice came from the cloud: 'This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to Him!'" (Mk.9:7)

Most "superhero" movies include defining moments... In the Batman story, a defining moment is when Bruce Wayne loses his parents. This one event shapes the entire story of his life as we know it. All of us have these moments, and often they help to define who we are. What I would really like us to know is this... It is not these moments that define us, but how we react to them. Many people might define the experience in Jesus' life that we call The Transfiguration, a defining moment in His life. Maybe not because of how He was changed because of it, but how it defined who He was to the rest of the world. I have preached a sermon or two on The Transfiguration, and I can never resist the temptation to put myself there in the place of Peter, James, or John...The image of a Jesus that glowed in clothes that were dazzling white, talking with Elijah and Moses is almost incomprehensible... Jesus was and is, the fulfillment of many prophecies, and The Transfiguration served as a defining moment in Jesus' life, confirming that he was the Messiah... The question, then, isn't so much of how Jesus reacted to The Transfiguration ----- I doubt that he learned anything from the experience, But I'm sure the disciples did, and so can we. So the better question here is this.... How do we react to this momentous happening? Perhaps it would be good for all of us to read and meditate upon Mk.9:2-12 and see what it means to us. I've got a bit more on this tomorrow....

Have a great day... Let His light shine through you today... Love mark Phil.4:11
