Sweet Success

"For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you, and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work...." (Col.1:9-10)

The apostle Paul is praying for the people in the church at Colosse, in today's verses. He wants them and us to have a heightened interest in the Lord's work. We have seen in the last two devotionals, that he has prayed for increased knowledge and participation. A third element is added to the mix that I have put in dark print today, and that is fruit bearing. I will call this success. If we engage in activities without success, discouragement can be the result. Many have lost interest in various ventures when they have failed to succeed... I am a firm believer that success in God's work increases interest. When we study from the Lord's Word to find its meaning, it should make us want to learn and study more. When we see someone obey the gospel, it ought to make us want to see more people obey... When we see those around us growing and being edified, it will produce great joy in us... "It gave me great joy to have some brothers come and tell me about your faithfulness to the truth, and how you continue to walk in the truth" (3 Jn.3). I am afraid that many have lost interest in the Lord's work because they haven't tasted the joys of success.. It is wonderful to smell the fragrance of those around us being encouraged by our efforts. It is the sweet smell of success....

Have a great start to your week... Begin it with a RAK or two... Love mark Phil.4:11
