The 1,2, 3's, Of Love

"The Lord said to Moses, 'Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them:' ' A priest must not make himself ceremonially unclean for any of his people, except for a close relative.....'" (Lev.21:1-2).

When we read Jesus' Parable of the Good Samaritan, we always view the priest and Levite who crossed the road to avoid the man who was beaten and robbed with a jaundiced eye. After all, they were of the religious order, weren't they supposed to be compassionate? All Jews from the beginning to Jesus' time believed that "love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind" was the first and foremost commandment from God. It was the second commandment that many of them had trouble with. Would it surprise you to know that love your neighbor as yourself to many of them ranked as low as seventh on their list of commandments? If you want to refresh your memory a bit, read Lev.19:18... To them, commandments like keeping the Sabbath and remaining ritually clean (today's verse) were more important. Some of Jesus' audience might not have been surprised then to see the priest and Levite pass by the injured man. They didn't want to get dirty... They should have known better, and so should we. When striving to be like Jesus, its easy to get our priorities mixed up sometimes. To often, Christians have gotten so caught up into the trap of arguing with people about specific beliefs, that they forget to love those people... Its not that beliefs don't matter; Its that Jesus wants us to keep things in the right order... Jesus' school of thought is the only one to follow regarding love... They are the 1, 2, 3's of Love... #1 Love God... #2 Love Others... #3 Love Everything else... Lets all be sure that these are the priorities of our lives...

Have a great day.... Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
