Smelling Good

"But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of Him.... For we are the aroma of Christ...." (2 Cor.2:14-15).

We all know that feeling of smelliness that we get on ourselves after a workout or perhaps a hard day of work. We can't wait to get into the shower and wash off the bad odor and replace it with with one that will make us feel more pleasing to both ourselves and others. Today's passage, and into verse sixteen, reek with fragrances and aromas... Good ones... It would probably be good for us to read and meditate upon theses passages soon. Within their context, the apostle Paul is speaking to the Corinthian people about how to smell good... This fragrance and aroma is not about bathing however, but about the responsibility to forgive a brother or sister who had sinned... "Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him" (Vs 7 & 8). Forgiveness is such a difficult subject to broach, because we are so poor at it. Just how do we grant forgiveness, comfort and love to one who has offended us? I might suggest that the first step is to do a bit of self-examination and be keenly aware of our own failures and acts of sin against God and others... We may find ourselves guilty of offending, disappointing, hurting, or causing pain to others too. Lets finish this with some words from the Psalmist..."Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit is no deceit. For I acknowledged my sin before you, and I did not cover my iniquity, I said, 'I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,' and You forgave the iniquity of my sin" (Psa.32:1-5). Whew! Do we get it now? There is a sweet fragrance and aroma that comes from repentance and confession, in that God covers all our sins and forgives us... What a wonderful relief and comfort... More about our part tomorrow...

Have a great day... Do good and give God the credit... Love mark Phil.4:11
