For The Year Ahead

"Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining for what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus" (Phil.3:13-14).

In a few hours, 2014 will be a memory and we will be a part of the year 2015. We'll probably mistakenly write 2014 on checks or correspondences for a while, but the reality is that we are to be in the year 2015. If I wrote all of this exactly one year ago, the idea would be the same, only the numbers would be different. So... How was 2014? Maybe I can summarize it this way... Another year is about to have gone by; have I made good use of the time God has given me, or have I wasted a lot of it? Now I'm not trying to lay a guilt trip on any of you, because it is likely that all of us to some degree have made good use of the past year. But at this point, lets apply the words of the apostle Paul in today's verses.. Paul isn't saying that there were no successes in the past, but he is saying that the past is gone. Whatever successes that have taken place are now in the rear view mirror of life... But one thing I do... Forgetting what is behind and straining for what is ahead, I press on....With this attitude of pressing forward, let me suggest that there are some things out there that we can do better. Even if 2014 was a pretty good year for us, its over and only 2015 is in the moment... As we are on the cusp of a New Year, perhaps before I make a suggestion or two about improvement, it is time for some reflection on our parts, and that of course includes me... As you reflect, perhaps you would share with me through an email some of the ways you want 2015 to be better than 2014... Your comments may even become a part of my next few devotionals... I look forward to hearing from you...

Have a Great New Year's Eve... Celebrate God's gifts... Love mark Phil.4:11
