The Kingdom Epitomized

"Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this" (Isa.9:7).

Tip O'Neill, the former Speaker of the House, is attributed with this saying: "All politics is local..." He might as well have been saying that all politics is personal... All mortal leaders rule by an appearance of a personal following. Back in the days of Isaiah and forward, the leaders ultimately failed because of personal faults and/or rival powers. Even if the kings would reign for a complete lifetime, the kingdoms over which they ruled would one day crumble. If we say that politics is personal, it is the recognition that rulers come and go.... Kingdoms rise and fall... There is no distinction any greater between earthly nations and the rule of God than understanding that the kingdom of God draws life from its king! He is eternal in the heavens and does not fail. His kingdom abides forever... "For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders... (V 6) The government of Christ's church rests on a Savior crucified in weakness and He is the Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace. Christians do not pledge themselves to some abstract system of rulership. The apostle Paul wrote this to Timothy: "because I know whom I have believed..." (2 Tim.1:12) Paul knew that Jesus was reigning from God's right hand. "And the disciples were first call Christians at Antioch" (ACts 11:26). Christian is the universal designation for those who claim to be members of His kingdom and pledge their allegiance to Him... The church is His kingdom epitomized.... Enjoy your membership...
