Without An Angle

"My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done" (Matt.26:39).

Jesus lived His entire life, right up until the end, with a servant attitude. Maybe the opposite of this attitude might be called egoism. The egoist always looks for a self-serving angle before doing good stuff. Jesus never did! "When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick" (Matt.14:14). Jesus exhibited loving compassion on those who needed Him. He throws the selfish and "looking for an angle" attitude out the window with the great parable of the Good Samaritan... The Samaritan who helped the wounded man by showing compassion on him, did so without an angle. I believe that Jesus wants us to be people with that same attitude of serving without expectation of reciprocation. I guess the big question of the day might be this... Is this servant attitude possible for us today? I believe this, and I hope you do too. The longer one walks with Jesus, the more he or she will naturally (maybe even automatically) have the desire to help others. Not only that, they will do so without stopping to think of any possible reward... If we really want to be Christ-like, we will view Christian charity as a norm for human behavior. I have a good friend who always includes this phrase in his correspondences... "Do right for no other reason than because it is right..." I like it, how about you?

Have a great day... Go about doing good... Love mark Phil.4:11
