The Deserters

"A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. When the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among the thorns, which grew up and choked the plants..." (Matt.13:3-7).

Yesterday's devotional was about many of Jesus' disciples leaving Him because they deemed His teachings as being too "hard." (Jn.6:66-69) Sometimes, in order to be strengthened, it is good to examine why some people hear the message, but turn away. Today's verses are from one of Jesus' famous parables. We know this one as the Parable Of The Sower... The seed represents the message, and the soil it falls on are the representative hearers. The path was so hard that the seed could not penetrate and take root... Some people just don't want to hear the message of salvation. How sad... The seed that fell on the rocky places quickly took root, but because there was not much soil it withered... Some folks just don't have any "depth" about them, and the message is just not important enough for them to investigate further. Then there is the seed that that fell among the thorns. It may take root, but the thorns quickly choked them out and left no chance for them to get nutrients, sunlight or water. Lot's wife of the Old Testament could not resist the temptation the "turn back..." Some, because they don't understand God's plan and expect instant results, turn away. Some like Demas (2 Tim.4:10) love the world too much to stay out of it... Lets give thanks that we are the "good soil... "Still other seed fell on the good soil, where it produced a crop ---- a hundred, sixty, or thirty times what was sown... He who has ears, let him hear" (Vs 8-9). Jesus wants us to take the message into our hearts and share it with others through our godly living. The fields are out there, they just need a good sower....

Have a great day... Let Jesus' light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
