Abounding In God's Work

"Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of The Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord" (1 Cor.15:58).

Christianity was designed to be a religion of action. Beginning with the Sermon On The Mount, Jesus encouraged folks to be "doers." "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven" (Matt.7:21). One of the first children's songs I learned in church was about the wise man who built his house upon the rock. It was countered by the foolish man who built his on the sand and was replete with visual effects. This comes from Matt.7:24-27 and powerfully teaches that the wise man hears and acts, while the foolish man hears and does not... The Book of James reiterates the same thought... "Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says" (1:22). So, perhaps what we have here is the first step in being people that desire to abound in the Lord's work. The first step is to know what we are to be abounding in... This can only be found in the Holy Spirit's inspired Word. Without sounding rigid, I believe this means that we must be doctrinally sound. The Lord does not want divisive people, and if we are busy in His work, there will be little time for that divisiveness... Paul wrote today's verse because he saw some division in the church at Corinth, and wanted the people to grow and mature correctly in the Lord. He declared the reality of Christianity and the reason to abound in the work of the Lord... Christianity is based on a real Christ dying and really being resurrected from the dead. If people are to abound in the work of the Lord, they must be doctrinally strong... Steadfast and Immovable... We will look at more ways to abound in the work of the Lord this week...

Have a great day... Do good and give God the credit.... Love mark Phil.4:11
