Then Decide The Motive

"Anyone, then, who knows the good thing he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins" (James 4:17 - The NASB says the right thing).

When I used to watch those "whodunits" on TV, the detective, in trying to find the perpetrator, always looked for the motive... If we are to abound in the Lord's work, we must decide that we have the proper motive(s) in mind. What I am trying to say here is that we are not to do things for the wrong reasons, but to do right because it is the right thing to do... Here's what Jesus said about motive... "Be careful not to do your acts of righteousness before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven" (Matt.6:1). Jesus continues that thought be saying that the Pharisees loved the approval of men rather than the approval of God... Next, we need to give some serious thought about what the Lord's work really is. Not to over simplify, but it is the work the Lord wants us to do, and the work that He actually does through us... Not only that, but the Bible teaches that our work it is not in vain... In it there are rewards for us. First there is the reward of the warm feeling we get when we serve God and help others, and then the reward of eternal life for those who do His will. When we are teaching and witnessing for Jesus, we get in touch with the eternal part of man. The words of the apostle Peter are appropriate here as he writes; "Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God" (1 Pet.1:22-23). I'm not sure if I would have made a very good detective, but I think I have that motive thing right...

Have a great day... Let His light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
