Church of Christ

Called To Be Saints

"To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Jesus Christ, saints by calling, with all who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours" (1 Cor.1:2).

As I continue on the theme of God calling, we come to today's verse. It is an introductory part of the apostle Paul's 1st letter to the church at Corinth, a city in Greece that had a reputation for being a wicked place. But those to whom he addressed the letter were different... They were sanctified in Christ, saints by calling... Through the Word, God calls us in the very same way today, as we too are sanctified in Christ and saints by calling. He calls us into a fellowship with God... "God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful" (V 9). We might actually call this a "joint-participation" with Jesus, a "son-ship" of sorts. "Because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.." (Rom.8:14). We are sons to the point that Paul goes on to use the tender term of Abba Father, "because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God... (V 14). The term abba is a form of the word father that that comes to almost mean "daddy." Isn't it cool to think of our relationship with God though Jesus Christ as one that has that intimacy? The ultimate call from God to us is one of victory. Jesus proclaimed; "But take heart! I have overcome the world" (Jn.16:33). I am reminded of the old hymn, Victory in Jesus... "Oh, victory in Jesus, my Savior forever, He sought me and bought me, with His redeeming blood; He loved me ere I knew Him, and all my love is due Him, He plunged me to victory, beneath the cleansing flood..." Some more about God's call tomorrow....

Have a great start to your week.... Begin it with a RAK or two... Love mark Phil.4:11
