Called To Be Saints

"But you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ" (1 Pet.2:5).

Yesterday, I used 1 Cor.3:16-17 as verses used to explain that "you are a temple of God and that the spirit of God dwells within you..." The people in Corinth were very familiar with temples, and had many of them. Its "patron saint" was the Greek goddess Aphrodite, (Venus) the goddess of love and beauty. They would certainly understand the use of the term temple, and it must have amazed those Christians to have the word applied to them... "You are a temple of God..." Peter even ups the ante a bit in today's verses, as he calls Christians the "living stones" who make up a spiritual house... Through two centuries, these words apply to us, and as God's temple, we are to be holy and dedicated to Him. Peter paints this picture for us in even greater detail a few verses later when he writes; "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation. A people for God's own possession so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into his marvelous light..." (V 9) As God's temple, we are to reflect the wisdom of the divine architect. Our structure ought to show the beauty of being that temple in our words and actions. It should be a place of praise, letting everyone know that God is alive and His Son wants to lead us to salvation. It is an important part of our life to do everything within our power to keep the temple intact, functional and thriving....

Have a great day... Make a difference... Love mark Phil.4:11
