A Caring Church

"Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and God's Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is holy, and you are that temple" (1 Cor.3:16-17). "But the Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before him" (Hab.2:20).

The Jews of the Old Testament and in the 1st century, thought that the temple was a very holy place. One time a year, the high priest went into the innermost part of it (the holy of holies) to present a special sacrifice. They thought that their God resided in the temple, hence the 2nd verse from the Book of Habakkuk... It is against this backdrop that today's verse from 1st Corinthians comes to life. The apostle Paul, writing through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit says this: "Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple..." There is a kind of duel thought here... The church is God's "temple" today, and since Christians make up that church, we become God's temple. The last part of today's verse tells us that God's temple is holy... This means that within in His church, Jesus expects us to have a great caring attitude toward one another. We learn from 1st Cor.12:26 that when one of our members suffers that all of us suffer with him or her. In the same way, if one of our members is honored, everyone rejoices with that person. The only way that this is going to happen is for all of us to make a sincere effort toward being holy.... Why? "For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple...." As we take a genuine interest in the Lord's work and in one another, our temple becomes just what God intended it to be. Lets make that extra special effort to understand that in every second of every day the Lord is in His holy temple... With that in our minds and hearts, lets be caring members of a caring church...

Have a great day... Let His light shine through you.... Love mark Phil.4:11
