The People The Church Needs

"But as for you, continue in what you have learned and become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation in Jesus Christ" (2 Tim.3:14-16).

God wants people within His church that are committed to learning. Not just those who may pick up their Bibles from time to time and read a bit, but those who really want to be "people of knowledge." It has always been that way, even in the days of the prophets of the Old Testament. The prophet Hosea wrote these important words..."My people are destroyed because of their lack of knowledge... because you have rejected knowledge, I will reject you from being my priest. Since you have forgotten the Law of God, I will also forget your children" If these words seem chilling and sobering, they were meant to be. When it comes to learning more about the Lord, we cannot afford to become stagnant... When we grow in knowledge, other parts of our spiritual walk seem to fall in line. "His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness" (2 Pet.1:3). Peter then gives us a wonderful list of virtues that we are to engender as Jesus' followers. The list includes: faith, goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, love.... Though knowledge is safely tucked away in the third slot, Peter concludes this by letting us know what these Christian traits add up to in verse eight... "For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ" Our growth into spiritual maturity has its roots in our desire to get to know Jesus and His Father. The church needs people of knowledge, so do we want to be one of those people?

Have a wonderful day... Make a difference... Love mark Phil.4:11
