Being Prepared For A Storm

"The foolish one said to the wise, 'give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.' 'No ,they replied, there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves...' " (Matt.25:8-9).

Today's verses are an excerpt from one of Jesus' teachings called "The Parable Of The Ten Virgins." Jesus divided them into two groups of five and designated one of the groups to being the wise one and the other the foolish. Being wise or foolish in this case was all about preparation. The ten women were to go out and meet the bridegroom, who was late in arriving. He didn't arrive until midnight, and the foolish ones did not have enough oil in their lamps. While they were out buying the oil they needed, the bridegroom arrived and those who were prepared went with him to the wedding banquet, and the door was closed. Because of a lack of preparedness, the foolish virgins did not get to go to the feast... I believe that Jesus is talking about his return in this parable. The time of Jesus' return is not known, so the emphasis is on always being ready. Storms of life may fall upon us at any time, and no one can do the preparing for those storm but us. Conversely, opportunities may arise for us to be of some great service, but we can only perform it if we are ready. We must be like the wise man of the seventh chapter of Matthew who built his house upon the rock. Jesus is our rock! The oil in today's parable is our own spiritual reserve. It is based upon the strength of our faith and the power of our obedience. We can only have a stormproof religion if we stay ready at all times. We can only serve the Lord the way we should if we are in a constant state of preparedness... Whether our day is a stormy one, or one of opportunity, lets all have enough oil to see us through...

Have a great day.... Make your little part of the world better... Love mark Phil.4:11
