Stormproof Through Growth

"Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things......" "Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has 10 talents" (Matt.25:21 & 28).

Matthew 25:14-30 has come to be known by "The Parable of the Talents." For the purpose of this devotional, I am going to rename it and call it this: "A Storm Hits the One Talent Man." To be fair, the storm hit the men with five and two talents also, but they came through it. If we quickly review the parable, a man called his servants together and entrusted his property to them. He gave one man five talents, another two, and a third man was given one... The first two men doubled their money... The third man was afraid to lose his, so he hid the talent and gave it back to the master upon his return. The irony in the story is that not only was the master dissatisfied with the third man, but his talent was given to the man who now had ten... A storm has tragically hit the one talent man, and he was not able to survive it.... Today's parable sets up perfectly for the lesson I have in mind. In order for us to be able to survive the storms of life, spiritual growth and maturity must take place. We cannot become Christians and then expect to live on "baby food" forever. The Lord does not want His people to stagnate. He takes us from where we are when we come to believe in Him, and expects us to make solid strides of improvement. It might do us all good to read and meditate on Hebrews 5:12-14 to really have this point driven home. The one talent man was satisfied with his non-improvement, but the master was not... God wants continued growth and improvement, so we must take what we have, and build on it...

Have a great day... Make a difference... Love mark Phil.4:11
