Stormproof Through Hearing And Doing

"For it is time for judgement to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?" (1 Pet.4:17).

If we really desire to be "stormproof" we must be both hearers and doers. The Bible is replete with admonitions relating to the fact that hearing the truth is just not enough. We put ourselves into the shoes of a person standing on the railroad tracks. Just hearing, or even seeing the approaching train is not enough. We must take the action of getting off the tracks if we expect to survive. Over and over again, people living along the Atlantic coastline hear about approaching hurricanes. Our ability to track these storms is very precise these days... One must make the decision whether or not to evacuate their homes or ride out the storm and take the accompanying risks. In today's verse, Peter is talking about our salvation. He is very blunt... "What will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?" In his epistle, James compares someone who listens to the word but doesn't do what it says to a person looking into a mirror and forgetting what they look like. "But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it ----- he will be blessed in what he does..." (1:25) I would like to complete this devotional on both hearing and doing with the words of Jesus... "Why do you call me Lord, Lord, and do not do what I say?" (Lk.6:46) God has designed our religion to allow us to survive the storms of life. To really have this, we must both hear and do...

Have a great start to your week... Begin it with a RAK or two... Love mark Phil 4:11
