Being Fit Through Love

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and Prophets hang on these two commandments" (Matt.22:37-38).

Just previous to today's verses, Jesus had tap danced on the Sadducees, and now it was the Pharisees' turn. One of them, and expert in law, tested him with this question... "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" This all seems pretty simple, doesn't it? If we are to be "fit" for the Lord's use, we have to people who love... In particular, we are to be people that love God. I guess I can stop writing now, because this sounds so easy... We're saying this to ourselves; "I love my husband/wife..." "I love my family...." "I love God..." There must be a catch here, so here goes... How easy was it for Peter in Jn.21:15-17? Jesus was appearing to the apostles after the resurrection and eating some fish and bread with them, and He had this byplay with Peter.... "Simon, son of John, do you truly love me more than these? 'Yes Lord,' he said, 'You know that I love you.' Jesus said, 'feed my lambs.' Again Jesus said, 'Simon son of John, do you truly love me?' He answered, 'Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.' Jesus said, 'Take care of my sheep.' The third time Jesus said to him, 'Simon son of John, do you love me?' Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him a third time, 'do you love me?' He said, 'Lord, you know all things; you know I love you.' Jesus said, 'Feed my sheep.' " Peter was absolutely sure that he loved Jesus, but it didn't stop Jesus from asking him about that love three times... Maybe we need to "role play" here and make believe that we are Peter, and Jesus is asking us about our love for Him. The teaching here is quite clear. If we are to be fit for Jesus' use, we must not only love God, but feed his sheep also....

Have a great day... Let His light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
