Death, Fear, And Comfort

"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me" (Psa.23:4).

All humans are under the shadow that is referred to in verse four today. The sheep never had any fear in them as long as the Shepherd was with them. We cannot remove ourselves from the inevitability of physical death, but spiritual death is another thing... What we must do, is to put our faith and trust in the Shepherd. Why? We put our trust there because the Shepherd knows the way through the valley. Whatever the dangers, the sheep always felt that the Shepherd would lead them safely home. What it does is to introduce the light of immortality for all of us. As Jesus' people, or His sheep, there are no evils in the world that can hold dominion over us. Why? Because all the powers of evil are nothing beside the power of the Good Shepherd. The Shepherd always carried a rod or staff with him. It was used to see if the footing was safe for the sheep, or even as a last line of defense for them. When we truly take Jesus into our lives, he promises to beat off our enemies and to be our constant guide... As we finish this section of the Psalm, lets take a look at another verse from King David... "Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life; you stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes, with your right hand you save me" (138:7). With Jesus, the Good Shepherd, as our Savior, friend and guide, we will fear no evil and we will be comforted...

Have a great day... Let His light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
