The Table Is Set

"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows" (Psa.23:5).

Often, the sheep would graze in the very sight of their predators, but the wolf, bear or lion would not risk their own death at the hands of the Shepherd. They would have to watch enviously at a distance as the sheep grazed peacefully under the protective watch of the Shepherd. King David wrote this Psalm. Enemy countries were all around him, but he and his people survived and flourished because the Shepherd was watching over him. Treaties were often made and feasts to celebrate them were held. Heads might be anointed with oil as a customary treatment of an honored guest. As Christians, we are cared for in the presence our enemies also. There is so much evil in the world and temptations are everywhere, trying to take us off-course. Amid all of this, the Shepherd is there protecting us from our enemies. "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it" (1 Cor.10:13). The Shepherd always led the sheep to food and water, as he does for us. Our cups overflow because the Shepherd is able to provide our needs, both physical and spiritual... Matthew 6:25-34 explains this to us, and the signature statement says; "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well" (V 33). We are so blessed to have the loving Shepherd watching over us. Lets have faith and trust in this, and talk with Him often. We will finish the Psalm tomorrow...

Have a great day... Make your little part of the world better... Love mark Phil.4:11
