Why Jesus Wept

"Jesus wept" (Jn.11:35).

I guess you know that Jn.11:35 is the answer to the trivia question that asks about which verse is the shortest in the Bible. I would like to explore over the next few days, into the reasons that Jesus wept. Just as an interesting side bar about this specific verse, you probably all know that the Bible was not written in chapters and verses... Many years after John penned his gospel, scholars took to dividing it up into logical divisions of chapters and verses. I assume that they found "Jesus wept" to be so profound that they left it as a single verse unto itself. I'm glad they did... As one who wears his emotions close to the surface, I am stirred in my own heart that Jesus actually wept. The one who could not only calm the sea, but walk on it, wept. The one who gave sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, turned water into wine, and brought the dead back to life, wept. The one who could forgive sins and had power over heaven and earth, wept. Perhaps because He is the Son of God and the Son of Man, He can identify with us as humans in that He wept. In a world that likes to talk about "keeping it real," Jesus did just that... The New Testament mentions three times that Jesus wept. I would like to take a look at them this week. Maybe our relationship with Him will grow even stronger as we see this side of our Savior...

Have a great start to your week. Begin it with a RAK or two... Love mark Phil.4:11
