The Message Of The Cross

"Now I make known to you brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which you stand, by which you are also saved, if you hold fast the word I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you of first importance what I also received, that Jesus died for our sins according to the scriptures...." (1 Cor.15:1-3).

Reactions to the cross were as about diverse in the first century as they are today. To the Greeks and Gentiles, crucifixion was so bad that they hardly used the word cross... To the Jews, it turned out to be a stumbling block. Despite the writings of the prophets, they expected the Messiah to be a political deliverer, and were disappointed with him. All of that being said, the message of the cross was and is one of the most powerful messages ever taught... Lets put it in its most frank and blunt terms. Until people hear and believe this message, there is no hope for forgiveness of sin... The message is not heard or believed for a multiplicity of reasons. First there's the rationalization for sinning... "I couldn't help it" "I got carried away" "I was tempted" Then there's the philosophical approach.... "We are what we are" "its a genetic thing" "Its an environmental thing" The hedonist says that the purpose of life is pleasure seeking and that truth is relative anyway while situational ethics proclaims that there are no absolutes in the moral realm anyway... On an emotional level, people are quick to "blame others" for their sins.... So many sins and so many excuses, when there is only one real answer. That answer is embodied in the message of the cross.... As today's verse says; "that Jesus died for our sins according to the scriptures.." This week we will take a close look at the message of the cross and what it really means to us and the world.

Have a great start to your week. Begin it with a RAK or two.... Love mark Phil.4:11
