Message Of The Cross - Man Can't Save Himself

"He saved us, not on the basis of deeds we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit..." (Titus 3:5).

Using our creative and intellectual abilities, man has certainly made phenomenal strides in many areas. Humans have been able to accomplish astounding feats in agriculture, travel, medicine and communication, just to name a few... Two things stare at us like beacons in the night regarding things that we cannot change... The first is that we will all die one day, though through scientific advances humans are living longer lives. The second one is about our salvation. With no other way to convey it, man cannot save himself. Salvation was worked out by God for mankind through what Jesus accomplished on the cross. MAN CANNOT SAVE HIMSELF! In the Book of Romans, (1:20-30) we are given a litany of areas in which man sometimes thinks that he has a set of earthly and worldly values that are either superior or not related to God's set... To draw our minds into a clearer focus, it would be good for us to read and meditate on these verses to show us that things are simply just not that way... Todays verse, from the Book of Titus, puts everything into a bold perspective. "He saved us" How? "Not on the basis of good deeds" Really? Yes! Not even on the basis of good deeds "done in righteousness..." To be saved, it is accomplished "according to His mercy by the regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit.." This regeneration and renewing is not some magical occurance... It is an integral part of what Jesus did for us on the cross. It is the message of the cross... Jesus saves...

Have a wonderful day... Let His light shine though you.... Love mark Phil.4:11
