Jesus Resists Temptation Through Study

"It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone'.... It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God alone and serve him only...' He taught in their synagogues, and everyone praised him" (Lk.4:4, 8, 15).

Another important factor in Jesus' sinlessness must have been his intimate knowledge of his Father's will through the scriptures. In the first two of today's verses, we find Jesus is the desert where he is tempted by the devil for forty days. The Lord's responses to Satan's temptations were punctuated by the term, it is written.... Jesus grew up in a devout Jewish home, and he was acquainted with the "sacred writings..." Jesus did not respond to the devil with it is written by accident. Jesus knew who he was, and he knew God's Word! More than likely, he would have been able to quote Psalm 119:11, and know that it said; "You word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against you" This a verse that we ought to commit to memory ourselves, and though it is a short one, it is worthy of our meditation... When my kids were young, we would watch Jeopardy together on TV. They were always impressed with how many questions I was able to answer, which provided me with a teaching moment... I let them know, that even when I was their age, I read a lot. The lesson? If you read a lot, you will know a lot... In our fight to resist temptation and live a more sinless life, we must develop the good habit of reading, studying, and meditating on God's word. It is cool to impress your kids, but even better to impress God. Reading Phil.4:8-9 will help in getting us to dwell on the things we should dwell on..

Have a great day.... Let his light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
