Peace And Prosperity

"May peace be within your walls, and prosperity within your palaces" (Psa.122:7).

I would like to write this week about peace (happiness) and prosperity... At this season, the politicians are having a field day with that prosperity thing. It would seem that we middle class folks are the ones they are trying to reach, and they have the recipe that would make us more prosperous... We can choose to believe what we want to believe, but the biblical recipe has been around a lot longer than what we hear in the ads and in the flyers... Lets clear up a common misconception first... It is not wrong for a Christian to prosper or desire prosperity. The apostle John wrote this to Gaius: "Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers" (3 Jn.3). It would seem that John wanted Gaius to prosper, as long as it did not put his soul in jeopardy. These verses from the book of Proverbs should help... "Give me neither poverty or riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise I may have too much and disown you and say,'Who is the Lord?' Or I may become poor and steal and so dishonor the name of my God" (30:7-9). Happiness and prosperity are often not evaluated properly by the world. The truly prosperous folks of the world drink the right beverages, drive the right cars, wear the right jeans and go online to find their soulmates.. King Solomon learned better (the hard way) and warned us in Eccles.2:1-11 & 12:13-14... The teaching here is that prosperity for prosperity's sake is wrong, and that faithful service to God does not automatically withhold peace and prosperity. We will take a look at God's ancient recipe for peace and prosperity this week. If you want to get a "head start" read Psalm 122...

Have a great start to your week... Begin it with a RAK or two.... Love mark Phil.4:11
