Making Foolish Decisions

"However, when the people of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and Ai, they resorted to a ruse..." (Josh.9:3-4).

Things are not always what they seem to be, are they? Because of this and because of our nature, we often make foolish decisions. I am reminded of an old Andy Griffith Show episode in which Barney wants to buy a car. He is "taken in" by a seemingly innocent widow, and despite Andy's protestations, he buys a car from her. As you might have guessed or remembered, she is a scam artist. Soon after purchasing the car, the woman meets up with here partner and Barney is left with a "lemon." The rest of the episode is funny, as the supposedly posh car starts to deteriorate around Barney and Andy while they are on a ride... In the ninth chapter of the book of Joshua, we find a unique, interesting, and intriguing story... The story makes for some interesting reading that you might like to do. Here's the kicker... The Israelites are on a "spiritual high" after defeating Jericho and Ai, despite a few speed bumps along the way. They have just renewed their covenant with God, when they run right into a wall... It is a wall of deception in which things are not what they seem to be. It is interesting to me, that the trickery pulled off by the Gibeonites, only worked because of their own carelessness and folly. This week, we will look at this chapter and notice how we, if we are not careful, can also make some foolish decisions in our lives. Being good decision makers is so important in our lives... Please read the chapter, and I think that this week's devotionals will make sense and come alive... Poor Barney...

Have a great start to your week.... Begin it with a RAK or two... Love mark Phil.4:11
