A Bad Choice In Triplicate

"Then Joshua made a treaty of peace with them to let them live, and the leaders of the assembly ratified it by oath" (Josh.9:15).

As we continue along in the 9th chapter of Joshua, the ruse on the part of the Gibeonites who were actually fairly close neighbors, worked... A treaty of peace was made with them and they were allowed to live. To top it off, the leaders of the congregation swore an oath to them.. A bad choice has been made! Just what happens after bad choices? "Three days after they made the treaty with the Gibeonites, the Israelites heard that they were neighbors, living near them. So the Israelites set out and on the third day came to their cities: Gibeon, Kephirah, Beeroth, and Kiriath Jearim. But the Israelites did not attack them, because the leaders of the assembly had sworn an oath to them by the LORD, the God of Israel" (Vs 16-18). Despite the foolishness of their decision, as the whole assembly grumbled against the leaders, Joshua and the people respond correctly to the consequences. They keep their agreement with the Gibeonites by upholding the deal they made with them.. God made a promise to the nation of Israel that they would inhabit the land of Canaan, but it was not going to be a cakewalk. They could not just sit around and wait for things to magically happen. Their experience was much like ours today. We are promised blessings in life and an eternity with the Lord, but we have to keep working for HIM... Unfortunately, we will experience a spiritual casualty or two along the way and make a few mistakes. How we respond and react to the reality of these mistakes will determine the level to which God will fight for us... We will finish this tomorrow...

Have a great day... Make your little part of he world better... Love mark Phil.4:11
