God's Grace Despite The Mistakes

"So Joshua saved them from the Israelites, and they did not kill them. That day he made the Gibeonites woodcutters and water carriers for the community and for the altar of the Lord at the place the Lord would choose. And that is what they are to this day" (Josh.9:26-27).

I hope that the 9th chapter of Joshua has given us some good insight and food for thought. That's what the stories in the Old Testament are supposed to do for us. Here is what I have learned... The fact that the Lord is working on our behalf, despite our mistakes, and beyond even our best efforts is the reality that makes all the difference for us.God's grace is there to forgive and sometimes overrule. This does not preclude that we will not suffer consequences from the mistakes we make, because we may, and often do. The Israelites had to live with their bad decisions and allow the people of Gibeon to live because they swore an oath. Because of their deception, the Gibeonites were spared, but would only be woodcutters and water carriers for the rest of their lives. Despite our mistakes, poor decisions, and bad choices, God promises to be forgiving and patient with us. Don't get me wrong.... This does not give us a license to be willful "mistake machines..." Lets take a look at the lessons we can learn here in the 9th chapter of Joshua. As we do, we will hopefully see how mistakes were made and learn from it so that we can become more righteous in God's sight.. Mistake free? Probably not... Consequence free? Probably not... Forgiven? Through the grace of God through Jesus Christ.... Definitely...

Have a wonderful day... Let His light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
