A History Of Forbearance

"Now when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people assembled about Aaron and said to him, 'Come, make us a god who will go before us; as for this Moses, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him... ' " (Ex.32:1).

God brought the people of Israel out of Egypt with many signs and wonders and what do they do? "and fashioned it (the gold) with a graving tool and made it into a molten calf ; and they said, 'This is your god, O Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt'" (V 4). Those he chose, like Aaron, even built an altar before it and they partied... God told Moses that He would destroy this nation and start all over again. But Moses entreated God to spare them, despite their gross sins... This is not implying that Moses was not furious with the people, including his brother. God decided to allow Moses to continue leading the people and we get a wonderful glimpse of how forbearing He was. He stitched them up, bound their wounds and led then through the wilderness... In the long history of Israel, we find the loving-kindness (forbearance) of God. Forever He demands holiness out of His people. The only act of forbearance any greater than that with Israel, is the way he reached out to us... "But when the fullness of time came, God sent forth His Son..." (Gal.4:4) "For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly" (Rom.5:6). For us, the wonderful forbearance of God shines through in His Son, Jesus Christ...

Have a great day... Do good and give God the credit... Love mark Phil.4:11
