Forbearance Toward Judgement

"The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient (forbearing) toward you, not wishing any to perish, but for all to come to repentance" (2 Pet.3:9).

We finished yesterday with God sending Jesus to us to die on the cross for human sins. His forbearance causes Him to delay the Day of Judgement when Jesus returns. That is the implication of today's verse from 2 Peter... There comes a time when His forbearance "plays out." It did for Israel, and it will for us, so we must be aware of the danger... Ours is a generation that sometimes wants to "play with God" as we would with a basketball. Often image over substance becomes dominant. When a "slip-up" in our life occurs, damage control and PR are the concern instead of truth, repentance, humility and the asking of forgiveness... God continues to forbear those who approach Him from pure hearts and motives. He is not at all interested in how clever, trendy, slangy, or up-to-date we are. God's forbearance seemed to be endless when it came to Job and Jeremiah, but it came up short when dealing with Ananias and Sapphira... Jesus' forbearance was powerful for the tax-gatherers, but came up short with the Pharisees... We must make sure in this generation that we stay the course and stand for right lest we jettison history... Perhaps this will allow us to have a more forbearing spirit in our own lives...

Have a wonderful day... Make your little corner of the world better... Love mark Phil.4:11
