What To Be When We Grow Up

"Instead, whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave...." (Matt.20:26-27).

We often ask young children what they want to be when they grow up. It may be a question just asked out of curiosity, but for parents it is certainly a real one. As parents, people want the best for their kids. I may be over dramatizing this, but we are somewhat powerless to help our children in this way until they actually decide what they want to be. This devotional is not about raising children, so lets get to the heart of it. What if God posed the same question to us... "What do you want to be when you grow up, spiritually?" How much thought would we give to this question, and from a spiritual perspective, what do we really want to be? How did that famous slogan of the U.S. Army go... "Be all that you can be..." What is it in our spiritual life that would spur us on to be all that we could be. Today's verses give us a powerful clue as to what being our spiritual best is all about. Jesus taught us that the greatest thing we can hope to be is a servant to our brethren. A servant's primary obligation is to please his master. A good servant respects the authority of his master and seeks to be faithful, obedient, and useful to his master... Disciples of Christ are servants of Christ, submitting to His authority and obeying His will. Jesus actually said; "Why do you call me Lord, Lord and do not do what I say?" (Lk.6:46). Jesus, however, taught that a disciple's role in even more inclusive than that of any other kind of servant. We are not only to serve Christ, our master, but we are to serve one another... We are to serve our fellow servants.. So.... Have we grown up?

Have a great day... Do Good and Give God the credit.... Love mark Phil.4:11
