How To Be Ready

"Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I had to write and urge you to contend earnestly for the faith that was once for all entrusted to all the saints" (Jude 3).

The work of defending the gospel was not just reserved for the apostles. Our Bibles teach us that all disciples are to be ready to defend the faith. In today's verse, Jude is calling upon all of his readers, and all disciples of Jesus today, to contend earnestly for the faith that was once for all entrusted to all the saints. We are all the saints! If we want to break down the word "contend," it means to fight or struggle for something as a competitor would. The word "earnestly" also is translated from an athletic term which means to agonize. It describes the extent to which we must go in our efforts to defend the truth. The world out there is ready to pervert, twist, and mock the truth of God's Word. We, as disciples of Jesus, are to be ready to stand up and give our best defense. The first step in being ready to defend our faith is to "sanctify Christ the Lord in your hearts." (1 Pet.3:15). Our privilege as His followers is to set aside Christ from all others in our hearts. An integral part of being one of His disciples is to give Jesus the position of Lord and Master in our life. Jesus lets us know that He will never forsake us, but we must respond to Him with confidence and obedience. Here is the real clincher for me... If I am to be a true defender and apologist for Him, it is because I believe that His teaching is worth defending. That ought to be awesome and challenging for all of us....

Have a great day... Do good and give God the credit... Love mark Phil.4:11
