To All Who Ask, With The Right Attitude

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us a new hope......" (1 Pet.1:3).

Have you ever noticed the curiosity that people have for those with unique hobbies, interests or even jobs? In the same vein, those folks with those hobbies will often patiently answer questions about them to people who ask with genuine interest and curiosity. Peter said this: "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give a reason for the hope you have.... (1 Pet.3:15). Not only are we to be prepared with an answer when the occasion arises, but we shouldn't be annoyed or offended when people ask questions about our belief... After all, we don't shy away from talking about our hobbies, do we? We may be called upon to speak about the existence of God, the deity of Christ, or the inspiration of the Bible... Maybe its our belief in heaven, salvation, baptism, or even why we partake of The Lord's Supper each Sunday... We can't do these beliefs if we don't make the proper preparation. Finally, not only are we to be ready with a proper answer or defense, but we are to present it in the right way... "But do this with gentleness and respect" (V 15). No one likes a blowhard or a know-it-all... When we make our defense, it is not to be done in a disrespectful or an arrogant way. I don't know about you, but I do not like to be "talked down to." Paul said, "speaking the truth in love..." (Eph.4:15). Our last line of defense is a good and clear conscience... If folks are to believe and accept the truth, they have to see confidence and consistency in us... Hypocrisy has a devastating effect on our ability to witness, and our life must reflect the profession of our faith by our character, integrity, and actions....

Have a great day... Let His light shine through you... Love mark Phil.4:11
