Bringers V... How To Know If They Are Seeking

"When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, 'Will you give me a drink?' " (Jn.4:7).

When one is attempting to witness for the Lord, just how does he or she determine that a person is seeking? If we are to be "bringers," we have to master the ability to gauge others interest in the gospel. It is possible to offer too little on one occasion, while overwhelming or pushing people away on others... Striking the right balance is important, so one must remember that they are a Christian first.. A bit of kindness, genuineness, and courage goes a long way. Doing or saying something kind to someone is a good start, like holding a door for them or perhaps helping them to carry groceries... When we do some thing "slightly out of the ordinary," others will often take notice. Then, when you have their attention, you may inject little tidbits about your daily walk with the Lord. If they quickly change the subject or show no interest, you'll know that they are probably not currently seeking. You may walk away knowing that your gracious words or actions, or faithful example have planted a seed that might grow or bloom later. This is what Jesus did at the well with the Samaritan woman in today's verse from the 4th chapter of the gospel of John. Jesus had traveled a long way and was tired and thirsty. Of course He was not too tired to draw water from the well on His own, but he began His approach by simply asking her to give Him a drink... Even though He could have drawn the water Himself, he knew that would not impact the woman, especially since he was a Jew and she a Samaritan, if He didn't get to talk with her... Upon securing her attention, Jesus guided her into a conversation about her salvation needs. Why don't you read Jn.4:1-26 to see if Jesus' method worked.... More next Friday...
